Respiratory System

Cellular Respiration - Process of combining food with oxygen to release energy.

Aerobic C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O + 36ATP Very efficient

Anaerobic C6H12O6   6CO2 + lactic Acid + 2ATP signals muscle fatigue

Fermentation C6H12O6 6CO2 + Alcohol + 2ATP in yeast and bacteria

The respiratory system brings oxygen into the body and removes carbon dioxide and water.

Nostrils - Take air into nose, heat and moisture added in nose.  Air also filtered.

Trachea - Air pipe to lungs.

 Larynx - Voice box.

Vocal Chords - Vibrate in passing air.

Bronchus - right and left branch to lungs.

Alveoli - Small air sacks in lungs where O2 and CO2 transfer takes place.

Diaphragm - Muscle at bottom of chest.  Inhale when contracted.  Exhale when relaxed.
